Bird Watching

Group Coordinator(s) : Doug Denny with deputy Tim Berger

Meetings: We normally meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month although not in July or August.

No in the group            About 36 members – any one occasion around 12

We focus on a Spanish Nature Reserve, Aiguamolls de l’Emporda which is adjacent to one of the unspoilt stretches of the Costa Brava.  There are numerous hides here, an information centre, loos, picnic tables and most important – a huge variety of birds.  The nearest hide is very close to the parking for anyone not wishing or able to walk long distances.  A second car park on the other side of the reserve permits birdwatching from the car itself.  Very useful for inclement weather.

This year 11 of the group went to explore good birdwatching sites in the Camargue and stayed overnight in a very reasonable hotel giving us 2 days birdwatching in all and making the longer journey well worth it.  Overall it was a very successful trip and will probably be repeated next year.

We often have members present with substantial knowledge of birds, migration, habits, song etc who are more than willing to share this with the others.

Our meetings are friendly and informal and informative
