Le Phare du Cap Leucate
This week’s walk, to be led by Christine, is at Leucate, north east of Perpignan and has a morning start of 10.30 am.
The cliff top walking space is very wide so you can relax and enjoy the sea views. At the other end there are many steps down (of good quality) to the strand of sand where, it being holiday time, the cafés will be open. And then it’s back up those steps!
You need to head for the D83 which travels out to the coast, e.g. you can take the D900 out of Perpignan (in the direction of Narbonne) or the D91 from Canet en Roussillon. You can access the D83 from both these roads.
After exit 15, the D83 becomes the D627 and you stay on this for some distance, passing Port Leucate and Leucate Plage on your right. Leave the D627 at the next roundabout signposted Leucate Plage and Leucate Village.
Almost immediately there is another roundabout and you should take the first exit signposted Leucate Plage onto Avenue Charles de Gaulle. As you pass the sign for Leucate Plage turn left onto Chemin de Phare signposted Cap Leucate and Le Phare Semaphore. Once out of the housing estate, the road twists and turns a little but will take you up to the car park at the top of the cliff from where the walk will commence at the far end.
If you get lost ask for le Phare du Cap Leucate (or look up for the lighthouse!).
Water, stout shoes and sticks are beneficial and, as always, please remember that you walk at your own risk.
If you have any problems on the day, you can contact Christine on 06 46 02 79 80
